Change in Athletics

I wanted the FPU community to be aware of this change prior to a press release being distributed to the media late this afternoon. Thank you all for your support and prayers as we begin this new semester! These are the first three paragraphs of the press release: Fresno Pacific University President Pete Menjares has announced that Dennis L. Janzen, Ph.D., Director of Athletics for FPU since 2004, has stepped away from that role. After 30 years with Sunbird athletics, Janzen will be transitioning back to a faculty role, with a focus on online education. Menjares stated, “Dennis helped put Sunbird athletics on the map as former head women’s volleyball coach with an unprecedented win record. He continued the tradition of winning during his nine years as Director of Athletics. “Fresno Pacific University has a strong tradition of athletics and is committed to providing student-athletes with an excellent academic and competitive sports experience,” Menjares continued. “The outstanding coaching staff and athletics administration currently in place will continue to shepherd the process toward active NCAA membership. Dick Herrinton, Interim VP of Finances and Business Affairs, has agreed to serve as Acting Director of Athletics as the university continues to work through a transition plan.” Janzen made this statement: “Over these many years, I have been blessed to have been around some extraordinary people who valued a high level of excellence. Our athletics program has earned a strong reputation of one that is extremely competitive, has high standards for performance, behavior, and integrity in the classroom and in competition.  I trust that my time at FPU helped contribute to a collegiate athletics experience that the University, its constituency, and alumni can be very proud of.  I wish them well.”
