Senior Professionals Event

The Council of Senior Professionals seminar for Tuesday, September 18 (2-4 p.m. in the Seminary Chapel), features Pastor Paul Binion, "A Man Who Loves God, His Family, and His Community." Faculty and staff are invited to attend as guests of the Council.

Paul Lawrence Binion II was born in Fairfield, Alabama, the oldest of five children. As a child growing up in the deep South during the 1950s, he experienced much of the racial bigotry common at the time. This context together with some poor choices resulted in some very difficult times as a youth.  However, he says that "God got a hold of me" and that resulted in a significantly different direction for his life. The family eventually settled in Los Angeles, where he became a long-time member of the Wadsworth Church of God.

Pastor Binion is a graduate of CSU Los Angeles with a degree in history, and of Fuller Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity. The Southern California School of Ministry conferred the Doctor of Divinity upon him. He has lived in Fresno since 1977 when he came to assume the Senior Pastorate of the Westside Church of God. He is married to Valerie Jean Metoyer Binion since 1978. They have three daughters, a son, and five grandchildren. He is a pastor to "pastors," and an advisor to numerous organizations and ministries in our city and throughout the Valley.

Pastor Binion will share with us some highlights of his life story, including significant elements of his difficult youth in the deep South. He will be accompanied by his wife, Valerie.
