Farewell and Thanks to Erik and Sheena Leung

Our Director of Bands, Erik Leung, D.M.A., has accepted a position at Oregon State University (Corvallis) and will be leaving FPU after five years of distinctive service. Under Erik’s direction, the FPU Symphonic Band and related ensembles have flourished and grown in remarkable ways. For the past two years, Erik has provided leadership as MUS program director and been a driving force behind the Community Music School. We will miss his warm collegiality and students will miss his passion and commitment to excellence that has seen our bands reach new heights of achievement. I am working with Erik, Bethany, and Walter to strategize for the smoothest possible transition. We have a committed group of adjunct instructors who will also be an important part of the next season for our MUS department.

Further, Sheena Leung has been an invaluable team member for our IELP program in a variety of capacities over the past five years. She brought a wealth of international experience and a joyful disposition to this work that, I know, made a significant impression on our IELP students – many of whom were embarking on a global journey for the very first time in their lives. Sheena, thank you for your amazing service in IELP and (often unsung) support of Erik’s work in our Music department!

Please join me in congratulating Erik on this new opportunity and thanking both him and Sheena for their many contributions to the FPU community and our Central Valley region. We will miss you both tremendously. You go with our prayers for favor in this transition and every success in your new ventures.
