Farewell to Adam Schrag

Our associate professor of communication, Adam Schrag, Ph.D, has accepted a position at the University of Minnesota (Carlson School of Business) and will be leaving FPU in just three weeks’ time after seven years of distinctive service. Under Adam’s direction, the FPU student newspaper (The Syrinx) has flourished in remarkable ways, earning state-wide recognition and a variety of awards over the past several years. The standards of student journalism have risen dramatically under his tutelage. Further, Adam’s own scholarly profile was recently recognized by his selection to participate in the Dow Jones News Fund Multimedia Training Academy (UT El Paso) in early June this year (12 professors chosen nation-wide).

Adam’s work among us has been characterized by a passion for creating stimulating learning environments in his classes as well as a commitment to careful scholarship and incisive social critique. He has been an inspiring behind-the-scenes champion for students whose voices are often muted or under-represented. We will miss his warm, inclusive collegiality and students will miss his passion and commitment to excellence that has seen COM graduates flourish in a variety of settings post-FPU. I am working with Billie Jean to strategize for the smoothest possible transition as we head into the coming year.

Please join me in congratulating Adam on this new opportunity and thanking him for his many contributions to the FPU community and our central valley region. Adam, Annie, Owen, & Rosie, we will miss you all tremendously. You go with our prayers for favor in this transition and every success in your new ventures.
