Thanksgiving Luncheon: Everything You Need to Know

It is time for the annual FPU Thanksgiving Luncheon, a long-standing tradition when our campus communities have the opportunity to enjoy time with one another and share a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Each year we have a table decorating theme and service project opportunity to participate in.  Keep reading below for more information about both!

Ticket information:

Tickets are $4.00/each for staff, faculty and students without meal plans and can be purchased beginning Monday, November 18 through Friday, November 22 in the Student Life Office. In addition, tickets will also be sold from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in front of the cafeteria during that same week. Due to the space limitations, this event is only open to faculty, staff and students. University funds may not be used to purchase lunch tickets or table decorations. Information regarding the table decorating competition and service project are listed below.

Service project information:

Sunbird Food Pantry & International Office Sunbird Food Pantry:

The Sunbird Food Pantry has benefitted the FPU community since 2016 when it started out of one of the break room closets in the Office of Spiritual Formation. This was the start of highlighting the depths of the food insecurity on campus and addressing the challenges that many of our students face as they pursue higher education. Every canned good, fruit, vegetable, cereal, and toiletries have all made a tremendous difference. We accept donations at any point throughout the year.  Please continue to pray with us for continued partnerships, provisions and resources to continue the Sunbird Food Pantry.

International Office: In continuous efforts to support our students, this years’ service project is centered around our very own Sunbird Food Pantry and our International Office. Each year Fresno Pacific has highlighted our international student presence at the Parade of Nations by honoring the flags of each country that is represented and has continued to be our tradition. These are FPU students on an F-1 student visa and this year we are representing 41 different countries. Students from all over the globe are coming into the FPU community and it is the International Office’s missions as well as faculty and staff to aid international students to achieve their educational aspirations and achieve success in the FPU community. Enriching our community with diversity and intercultural excellence makes FPU unique and each year we are seeing new countries being represented. Coming far from home is difficult to pack all you need in one suitcase and many times the international office sees that some students come with little to no toiletries when arriving to the United States.

Table decorating theme: Welcome to 2094

2019 marks the 75th anniversary for Fresno Pacific. The past few months we have been reflecting on the past 75 years. Now we are taking a look into the future. In 75 years, what will our lives and everyday things be like or look like? Show us through your table decorations and with what you wear! There are no wrong ideas (since we don’t know what the future holds!) so creativity is a must! Departments will compete for the most creative use of the theme and group participation.  In addition to bragging rights for the year and the department/groups name engraved on the iconic Thanksgiving turkey trophy, the winning department/group will get a pizza lunch catered for them!

Tables will be judged on the following categories:

  • Decorations reflection of the theme
  • Creativity
  • Office participation
  • Uniqueness of decorations
  • WOW factor

Rules for table decorating:

- Departments wishing to participate in the decorating competition can check in with Kerry Brown and Breanne Wyse at 11:00 a.m.

- Table decorating will take place until 11:45 a.m. Judging begins promptly at 11:45 a.m.
