Fresno Pacific University Statement on Coronavirus

In order to safeguard the health of the university community, Fresno Pacific University has been in contact with the County of Fresno, Department of Public Health (FCDPH) regarding the Coronavirus. The county, in turn, has been coordinating with the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Since Coronavirus is a respiratory-tract illness—similar to colds and flu—county and federal officials call for everyone to practice preventative actions similar to those for these kinds of illnesses:

  • Wash hands regularly for 20 seconds or more with soap and warm water
  • Avoid touching your nose, eyes and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with your elbow or sleeve; not your hand
  • Avoid people who are ill
  • If you become ill, remain at home or indoors until you are no longer contagious

If you have symptoms for respiratory illness, such as fever, cough, difficulty breathing, running nose, headache or a general feeling of being unwell, seek help at the FPU Health Center, your doctor’s office or a walk-in clinic.

There are currently no diagnosed cases of Coronavirus in Fresno County. Airline passengers entering California from Wuhan Province, where the outbreak originated, are being placed in quarantine. Travelers from other areas of concern are being evaluated and surveilled based on their determined risk level.

Facemasks are recommended only for those officially diagnosed with the virus and not as an effective health precaution to the general public. The FPU Health Center has a small supply of face masks on hand and has ordered more.

The safety of students, faculty, administration and staff is always Fresno Pacific University’s first concern and the FPU Health Center staff remains in contact with the FDCPH for up-to-date information and instructions.
