Alice Neikirk and Ray Nickson appointed Executive Advisors to Cross-Cultural Energy NGO

In further recognition of their successful collaborations with Native American Tribes in the Pacific Northwest, Alice Neikirk, Ph.D., and Ray Nickson, Ph.D., have accepted invitations to serve Ocean Winds as executive advisors. Ocean Winds, whose leaders are tribal members from the Pacific Northwest, works to explore the potential for offshore renewable energy. The organization focuses in particular on the cultural and social impacts such development will have, especially for Native American nations and communities. Alice Neikirk and Ray Nickson, both faculty in the criminology program, have a long history of successful collaboration with Native American tribes. Recently, they assisted tribes and Ocean Winds in securing more than $500,000 in federal funding to examine the cultural resource impacts of offshore energy development in the Pacific Northwest.
