Announcement from the Provost

It is my pleasure to announce that Dr. Ronald Herms has accepted the position of Dean of the School of Humanities, Religion and Social Sciences.  The search committee brought forward two excellent candidates and the final choice was very difficult.  Dr. Herms will begin July 1, 2014. In addition to guiding HRSS and its faculty, he will also serve on the Academic Cabinet and will work closely with the other Deans and me to coordinate and guide particularly the academic center of the University. Thanks to the search committee, Dr. Laura Schmidt Roberts, Dr. Zack Durlam, Dr. Darren Duerksen, Dr. Eleanor Nickel, and Dr. Karen Cianci, Dean of Natural Sciences, who served as the chair. The committee was formed to represent the various elements of HRSS; they spent many hours in discussion and interviews. Thanks also to the 2012-13 HRSS Division Chairs, Dr. Tim Neufeld, Dr. Ken Friesen, Mr. Wayne Huber, and Dr. Eleanor Nickel, who worked together with me in forming the position announcement and identifying the needs of the school. We are all looking forward to Ron joining us in the coming months.
