Robert de la Torre Feature

Robert de la Torre, Program Representative at the North Fresno Center, was recently featured in the magazine “Focus Forward--U-Turns Allowed Magazine 2014”.  Focus Forward produced the first U-Turns Allowed Magazine in 2012 featuring amazing stories about people who had been in the juvenile justice system as minors earlier in their lives.  This is the second annual edition of the magazine featuring people who have made a U-Turn in their lives, such as Robert.  Along with others who are featured in this magazine, Robert willingly shares his story.  There is a common thread in all these stories—it takes one person—someone who reaches out and offers a hand—one person can truly make a difference in the life of a child in our community.  This is what happened with Robert.  Along with Dr. Karen Crozier as co-founder and facilitator,  Robert also co-founded  R.O.C.K. (Restoring Our City’s Kids) and shares the R.O.C.K. program and peacemaking circles with those currently incarcerated in Juvenile Hall.  R.O.C.K. utilizes peacemaking circles to provide a process for bringing people together as equals to talk about very difficult issues and painful experiences in an atmosphere of respect and concern for everyone.  What a testimony of turning his life around and now helping others do the same thing.
